“Externalities (the musical)”
Opening Act “Carbon Fee and Dividend”
How does the carbon fee, charged at the source of fossil fuel energy, refunded back to me, correct the market error they say … changed the world forever.
I say… show me how citizens lobbying, bipartisan, never giving up on our Senator or Congressman, can bring back the world we never meant to harm in our endeavor to enjoy, to employ our capacities as human beings.
Life was good with cheap energy. We didn’t have a clue until the 1800’s what greenhouse gases do. Good intentions paved the way, and the profit motive too! Now we’re in a pickle, or maybe it’s a stew!
There’s no free lunch but we can count on innovation. A market solution can bring more motivation, investment in technology to get a stronger nation, bringing jobs, opportunity, to build a new foundation.
How do we get there? Carbon fee and dividend!
You say climate devastation is what we pay for the true price of fossil fuels to power our economy. Are we fools?
Externalities, can you pronounce it? Externalities! It’s time you found out that the price of fossil fuels looks inviting low, but the market has an error, as economists know.
Collateral damage, can you see it? While communities suffer climate injustice, the industry profits. It’s up to us! to stop paying for clean up, warming up, flooding out. We can stop this!
We won’t back down from what brings justice to the remedy. What’s the answer?
Carbon fee and dividend. Revenue-neutral carbon fee and dividend. It’s time for true cost pricing, a level playing field, the transition from a hotbed of disaster to a world that’s livable. There is an answer!
There’s a million ways we get to try and a million more but we don’t have a million days. Our air gets hotter, shorelines nearer, devastation is our destination.
You want to turn the world upside down? What’s the answer?
